DHL Parcel has introduced a service in the Netherlands which lets consumers choose a delivery spot around the house. This way, the courier can still drop off the parcel when the consumer isn’t at home.
The announcement follows after a successful pilot project in collaboration with a handful of online shops in selected cities. Since the first of October, the service can be used by all consumers in the Netherlands.

First test was done with Wehkamp
The first test was this summer, done with major online department store Wehkamp. Its customers could choose to receive their order at an agreed location around the house. Customers were able to choose this new delivery option on the track-and-trace page and let their deliverer know where to drop the package, for example in the backyard, in an empty waste container, or in the garage.
DHL will still try to deliver in person first
With this new delivery method, the courier will still ring the doorbell as a first attempt to deliver the parcel in person. Emerce knows. If this is without any success, the deliverer will check if the agreed location indeed meets the requirements, like “is it dry?”, “is it not visible from the street?” and “does the package fits in that spot?”.
